Celebrating Parent Action - building parental power and connections in Southwark
Parent Action Christmas Celebration
On Friday 19th December, SLaM and South London Listens Chair, Jane Bailey, joined parents, young people, staff and volunteers at the Parent Action celebration - sharing and celebrating the organisation's important work in Southwark.
Parent Action offers shared safe spaces and a regular calendar of activities for parents and their children in Southwark to connect, receive practical support and activities, take parenting courses, and get peer support for their health and wellbeing.
Parent Action have been a leading community partner in the South London Listens programme. Listening to their communities and working with SLaM and wider NHS and Local Authority Partners to increase support for mental health and build social connection as one of our Be Well sites, co-develop innovative parent peer support programmes, and tackle systemic challenges like housing.
At the Celebration event, staff, service users and wider partners shared the impact of Parent Actions work, including data from a Kings College London evaluation which found that 40% of the mothers who came to Parent Action's Mumspace group were at the threshold of getting some form of mental health intervention, but after six months, 68% had fully recovered.
